泾源县，隶属宁夏固原市，位于宁夏回族自治区南端，因泾河发源于此而得名。东与甘肃省平凉市崆峒区相连，南与甘肃省华亭县、庄浪县接壤，西与隆德县毗邻，北与原州区、彭阳县交界，素有“秦风咽喉，关陇要地” 之称。辖4乡3镇，114个行政村。南北长41.5公里，东西宽27.3公里，总面积1131平方公里，其中耕地面积57.9万亩。总人口12.68万人（2011年），回族人口占98%。县人民驻香水镇。泾源县境内六盘山地区被列为不错自然保护区、不错森林公园和中国很好个旅游扶贫开发试验区。泾源建县始于北宋干德二年（公元964年），时名安化县，自华亭县析置。此后，县名及隶属关系曾多次变更。1950年9月，以其为泾河发源地而改今名。
